CATIA settings

There are two main types of CATIA settings in V5

1-Temporary settings : This settings are in folder called CATTemp, contains two directories which is Album ( screen captures created using Tools > Image > capture..), and the CNext01. Roll file. You can check the referenced variable called CATTemp in your catia v5 environment settings “.txt” file if you wondering is it located this folder in your machine.

2-Permanent settings: This setting is more important than the temporary because it stores all the customization you perform in your CATIA session or changes you make through Tools > options…

ToolsOptionsSettings_NLS

For example: if you made color change of your CATIA settings background or changed your print settings, etc…this will be saved in permanent setting.

Permanent setting files are identified by the suffix: *.CATSettings, and are created in a location referenced by the CATUserSettingPath variable.

NOTE: Deleting either types of files deletes your customization.

Here is how you can change your settings

Statr CATIA V5, go to Tools > Options…then you will see option window like below

In your  left side tree contains a list of categories used for organizing the different groups of settings. There are general settings for all configurations and products, and settings for each type of configuration installed. The category names are the same as those listed on the Start menu.

To access the settings for a specific configuration, click the “+” to display the subcategories. Clicking on the subcategory displays the settings tabs for that subcategory.

By the way you can the left tree is too small or too big, you can resize by zoom in/out, just like in your CATIA interface tree.

Here is how you can change your setting using commands (without starting CATIA session)

1. Change to the default folder in which you installed the product.

On Windows, the default folder is:

C:\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\B19\intel_a\code\bin  (32-bit code on Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista)
C:\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\B19\win_b64\code\bin  (64-bit code on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows Vista)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Dassault Systemes\B19\intel_a\code\bin (32-bit code on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows Vista)

2. Enter the command:

CATOptionsMgt

If you have several runtime environments on your computer, you can select the environment by entering the following command:

CATOptionsMgt -env envname

where “envname” is the name of the environment.

You can also access the Options dialog box using the Start > Programs > CATIA Tools menu, and running the  Settings Management V5R19 command.

The Options dialog box is displayed.

This function is useful for administrators because it allows you to set up user settings without having to start an interactive session first.

Here Are Settings Files Located on Windows

The location of settings files on Windows platforms is inspired by the general data and settings management requirements operating on the Windows platform, which provides an underlying infrastructure allowing you to separate user data, user settings and computer settings.

The mechanism used is the CSIDL value mechanism. This implementation allows:

  • your permanent settings (CATSettings) to roam as part of your user profile (CSIDL_APPDATA)
  • your temporary settings (CATTemp, etc.) to be still stored in the user profile, but prevents them from roaming (CSIDL_LOCAL_APPDATA).

NOTE: Your CATenv “txt” file, you may see something like this for the variable directory.

CATTemp=CSIDL_LOCAL_APPDATA\DassaultSystemes\CATTemp

The “CSIDL_LOCAL_APPDATA” is just the same as the default value

“C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data”

Permanent settings are stored in the CATSettings directory in your home directory; temporary settings are stored in the CATTemp directory, also in your home directory.
